Wide Horizons V - Generosity by Maria Billings

Showing at Patchworktage in Germany in June

Generosity

"Generosity" shows people around the globe sharing fruits and vegetables, as a sign of holding together during hard times.

Simplifying the complexity of the composition widened my horizon: combining many, many sketches of different hands (different skin colors, different ages) into one composition was a new challenge for me.

Hand-painted with acrylic, then hand-quilted (took 2 years)

Cotton and mixed fabric

Wide Horizons V - Tranquillity by Elly van Steenbeek

Showing at Patchworktage in Germany in June

Tranquillity

My inspiration for this work is a Haiku:

Away from it all
Deep breath in of salty air -
Sea tranquillity

The design is based on the sea, the sand and the sky.

The symbols are signs of tranquillity and peace.

Fusing, hand embroidery

All kinds of papers, rusted, altered and painted, combined on a base of cotton.

Wide Horizons V - Transit by k3n

Showing at Patchworktage in Germany in June

Transit
Transit in astronomy describes the movement of celestial bodies in relation to one another. I am in transit creatively, exploring new techniques without forgetting the old. I need to retain an enjoyment of the process so keep old techniques that give me pleasure and add new ones for excitement.

Collage with torn and cut fabric, foundation piecing, fusible appliqué, machine top-stitching and free machine quilting, hand quilting and embroidery.

Printed cotton, hand dyed and found fabric, unbleached calico.
