Call for entry: TIME

“Nothing is of itself; everything exists of and in everything …. Everything starts and ends with time, from the beginning of life to death. Just as long in anticipation, just as short in memory. Even if time is always with us, it is always a stranger. And although there is so much of it, every moment is forever lost and irreplaceable. The loss of time is therefore both more significant and more common than any other loss we may suffer”.
(from: Anthony Grafton, Cardanos Cosmos, Berlin 1999, page 8)

Volunteers needed for Stewarding the SAQA stand at FOQ Birmingham

Sandy Snowden from Great Britain is arranging the rota for the SAQA exhibition in August.

We have been able to put one person on the rota for nearly every stewarding session. But we would like to have 2 people instead of just one to make the stewarding easier.

If you are coming to the Festival of Quilts, please would you consider helping? If you are already doing one session, perhaps you would also consider helping for another session?

If you are not confident about speaking English, we would still like your help because there are  many visitors who don't speak English. You can help them connect with the work and with SAQA.

If you can volunteer, please email Sandy Snowden snsnowden@harmonyinformation.com . Tell her the day you can help and she will tell you what times we still need to fill.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Pizza Parlor Meeting in Berlin

The first-ever SAQA Europe/Middle East Pizza Parlor Meeting took place in Berlin, Germany, yesterday evening, with 7 members (and three prospective members) from 3 different countries in attendance. We enjoyed a sunny and pleasant evening in a pizza place on the corner of Fontanepromenade/Blücherstr. in Berlin-Kreuzberg, chatted about quilting, SAQA, Berlin, and many other things, and had a wonderful time together.

Hope to see you at the next one - or perhaps you want to take the initiative and organize one yourself!

In memoriam Lutgard Gerber-Billiau

Lutgard Gerber-Billiau

With heavy hearts and loving memories, members yesterday unfolded and hung Lutgard's quilts for Q.Art Belgium’s exhibition in Essen, Belgium. Lutgard’s long struggle with cancer is over. Leading the Belgian National Guild as President for many years and long-time SAQA member, Lutgard was also a founding member of Q.Art Belgium 16 years ago. We miss our colleague & caring, warm friend so very much. We hope our exhibition will be a tribute to a wonderful woman, a fine artist and a great friend. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Lutgard was the moderator of SAQA's regional yahoo-group for several years, which she only gave up a few weeks ago. Our grateful thoughts and wishes are extended to her family in this sad time.
