Am I Beautiful Yet? 2016

Inspiration :
After overhearing a a conversation between two teenage girls about the excessive use of makeup, I have been reflecting upon why we, as women believe our natural appearance needs to be enhanced. At a makeup counter in a large high street shop I watched a woman’s face being painted by an enthusiastic ‘beautician’ using a rainbow of cosmetics which actually masked the customer’s natural beauty. It made me wonder about whether we will ever realize that we are beautiful just the way we are.
This is part of a series that explores the lengths women will go to become more 'beautiful'. Each confronts the negative emotions women feel with regard to their appearance and what has become an obsession with beauty. When will we realize, we are beautiful enough already?

Techniques:
Fabric paints and dyes applied by brush and air brush onto cotton
lawn. My own hand dyed cotton poplin, both pieced and fused. Free motion
quilting on a domestic machine.
