Europe/Middle East is appearing on SAQA's world map...

Of course, this is a bit of a provocative header. But I wanted to point your attention into the direction of the main SAQA blog where our region has just appeared with a separate entry. This might be turning some awarenesses upside down, as on this upside down world map puzzle which I recently did with my son:

I am not able to give you any numbers, but I am pretty positive that ours is the largest region simply in terms of square miles covered...

As co-rep I have agreed to become a sort of "foreign correspondent" to the main SAQA blog, and will send in occasional reports to be published there. They will be different from what is published here, so it is well worth to take a look!

Fantastic Fibres 2015

Fantastic Fibres is a juried exhibition and, from the 430 entries, 60 were selected for the exhibition. All 60 entries will be on display from April 11th to June 16th at the Yeiser Art Centre in Paducah. Of the 60 selected works a third were by SAQA members and two of our region's members were accepted, Alicia Merrett and Sue Hotchkis.

The works of Sue and Alicia are also featured on the poster for the exhibition. Congratulations to both of you.

Sue was also recently interviewed by Linda Seward for the latest edition of the digital magazine Through Our Hands and Verdigris was used for the front cover.

Do you read the SAQA blog?

If you do then I apologise in advance for duplicating the information. SAQA is trying to raise awareness about heart disease in women and is joining the Go Red For Women campaign by featuring members' quilts on a designated Pinterest Board. Although the campaign is American based, recent research shows that we Europeans also need to be aware.

At least two of our region's members already have quilts featured on the board.

Selected for Quilt National

Belated congratulations to the following members in our region whose entries were selected for Quilt National 2015. It is not possible to show any of the entries at the moment as this would disqualify the entrants but, once they are made public, we will be doing a series of posts on their entries and, hopefully impressions of the exhibition.

SAQA get-together in Prague

Jana Sterbovy, SAQA member and organizer of the Prague Patchwork Meeting, has again invited SAQA members for an informal get-together during the 9th Prague Patchwork Meeting, April 10 to 12, this year.
The meeting will take place on Saturday, April 11th,  at 1 p.m. in the restaurant of the hotel.

Any SAQA member who will be present in Prague is welcome to come and meet other members.

Isabelle Wiessler

I was born in Paris and I am living in Germany since 1980

I began quilting 1990, first traditional, later on more and more abstract. The creative possibilities, that textiles and thread gives me, invited me to see the textile as initial point and medium and to combine it with paint and textiles. It helps me to communicate my feeling and concern about themes like the effect of time in the city but also in the nature, the marks people leave on their environment.
